Trikes For Disabled Use
Overcoming a mobility problem can be solved in a number of ways, although if you
are wheelchair bound then these problems can be particularly difficult. There are two main options for the disabled
rider, either
or a trike - it has to said that The Trike Shop in Cardiff have produced in recent years some of
the most stunning and exciting machines ever seen. The donor bikes range from Hayabusa's through GSXR 1000's to
V-Rod's with some even more intersting stuff in the pipeline. Dick Toulson's Valyrie which is featured here is another example of their work.
Dick having lost both legs in a bike accident many years ago now has a newfound freedom thanks to the Trike Shop and Kliktronic combination. Dick kindly allowed us to take these pictures which shows how is able to mount
and dismount the machine at the same time stowing his wheelchair on the purpose built rack.

Dick firstly hops up onto the machine using the footplate - occasionally he misses
and hits the exhaust which can be a bit warm I'm told!.... From there the rack swings round to accomodate the chair,
this then swings back and clips into place.
An alternative approach is to put the chair up onto the rack from the ground.
